ASHEBORO — Patti Benedict, the Asheboro woman who has been on a waiting list for a double lung transplant, got her wish granted Saturday. Benedict had her long-awaited transplant surgery Saturday afternoon at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. As of lunchtime Monday, she was breathing on her own.
